This is Life

On February 22, 2012 · 0 Comments

In August each year between 5,000 and 6,000 young people aged between 12-19 from across the UK will be gathering for the Newday Christian Youth Event (www.newdaygeneration.org), a week’s camping at the Norfolk Showground for meetings, seminars, sports, social activities, music, gigs, and much more.

As a part of this, the ‘This is Life’ (www.thisislife.org.uk) initiative teams up young volunteers attending Newday with local churches to help serve and undertake social action projects that impact and benefit local communities.

These projects, which are often delivered in partnership with local councils and police authorities, not only benefit the communities but are also a great learning opportunity and experience for these young volunteers.

Projects that are typically run are; clearing up litter and rubbish; running sports activities for local young people; running a kids’ holiday club; tidying up gardens for local residents; painting over graffiti; a community fun; day; car washing…

There are a number of ways you can ‘Get Involved’:

AS A CHURCH:

  • You can host a project and impact your local community with help from Newday delegates.
  • To do this you will need to be within 45-60 minutes travel time (by Coach) from the Norfolk Showground.
  • To find out more go to www.thisislife.org.uk/getinvolved and download the guidance and requirements for hosting a project.
  • The deadline for expressions of interest is the 3oth March 2012.

AS AN INDIVIDUAL:

  • If you are part of a church located more than an hour from the Norfolk Showground (or your church does not wish to host a project) you can get involved as a volunteer.
  • There are a variety of roles where the ‘This is Life’ team need help and assistance. These are as follows:
    • Volunteers with evangelistic gifting able to run town centre outreach / evangelistic projects
    • Volunteers to help run projects working with local churches who wish to host projects.
    • Volunteers to help on the Newday site, i.e. helping with loading Newday delegates onto coaches.
    • Individuals to join the ‘This is Life’ team who have specific skills in the areas of PR & Promotion (working with local press) and Fundraising & Sponsorship (completing applications to Trusts / approaching corporate sponsors).
  • Depending on the level of involvement, discounts may be available in terms of booking into Newday.

City Church Whitstable

On January 28, 2012 · 0 Comments

Over the last few years, The City Church in Canterbury has seen exciting growth as God has added to us.

In January 2011 we moved to two morning services due to growth and it has only accelerated since!  And then in April that year a Newfrontiers church in Whitstable (a seaside town 7 miles away) that was going through a leadership transition joined us, with the express purpose of resting and get ready to go once again.

On the 29th January 2012 those who joined us from Whitstable and many others from Canterbury are launching a second City Church site in Whitstable, meaning we will be one church, on one mission in two locations. Going ‘multi-site’ is an exciting adventure that God has led us into.

Being part of the City Church means we have a wealth of gifting and resources to benefit from, and the preaching will be via video much of the time. However we will have the challenges of being a ‘smaller plant’, especially in the area of finances and volunteers.

Would you partner with us as we take this next step into serving our communities and spreading the gospel? The key way you can partner with us is through Prayer or joining us!

Do visit our website www.thecitychurch.org.uk or contact us for more information.

China Day

On January 16, 2012 · 0 Comments

On Saturday 10th March 2012 we are looking to hold a day in the East of England for those interested getting involved in our work into China.

Getting involved can be to varying degrees:

• While remaining in your home church you could commit yourself to praying regularly for those working into this area as well as do what you can to help raise awareness of the needs of the unreached people and the opportunities to serve amongst them.

• Perhaps you could begin to explore ways in which your business or area of expertise could be used to help provide visa opportunities for others who need a long-term, credible platform to facilitate them living in this area.

• Maybe you would be willing to visit some of the people, serving and encouraging them, and learning about their situations over a few weeks.

• Or could it be that you sense deep down in your heart that God is calling you to go to the unreached peoples in China for as long as He keeps you there?

If any of the above resonates with you then we would invite you to come along on this day.

During the day there will be an opportunity to hear about activity is currently going on, receive some excellent teaching, have an opportunity to ask questions and see how you can get involved.

For security reasons it is essential to register for this event only using the details given below. Once you have made contact we can send you through more details.

A reference from your church leader will be a necessary part of this registration process and there will also be a small charge of £6 to cover lunch and refreshments.

The deadline for registering is the 29th February 2012

We look forward to seeing you at this event
